Progressives love to attack con /5(6).

Overall, Dr. Youngs thesis is compelling, and the book supports it with a broad array of original and consulted recent research from political and social psychology, as well as a solid grounding in the history of satire and outrage from the midth century through the present/5. The outrage that the book caused has often been singled out as the main reason for the passage of legislation to protect consumers. Public outrage over Sinclair’s book strengthened the hand of Progressive reformers within the federal government such as Harvey Washington Wiley, the chief chemist at the United States Department of Agriculture.

Essentially this book is inspirational for a new generation of journalists in a troubled era for journalism and a helpful resource for media school libraries. It is also encouraging that all the interviewees for this project “expressed compassion and empathy for victims of violence, abuse, and failed institutions, and most were vicariously. Solutions journalism is an approach to news reporting that focuses on the responses to social issues as well as the problems themselves. Solutions stories, anchored in credible evidence, explain how and why responses are working, or not working. The goal of this journalistic approach is to present people with a truer, more complete view of these issues, helping to drive more effective citizenship.
